Multidisciplinary Team Assessment
Expert Opinions. One Appointment.
One Integrated Treatment Plan.
Some conditions are too complex to be fully assessed by a single specialist.
The Leeds Limb Centre offers a dedicated Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Assessment Service, bringing together experienced surgeons and rehabilitation specialists to provide a comprehensive evaluation in a single visit.
Following assessment, you will receive a detailed written report outlining the team’s findings, diagnosis and personalised treatment recommendations.
Whether you are considering surgery, seeking a second opinion, planning rehabilitation or navigating a medicolegal claim, our MDT assessment provides an independent, evidence-based treatment plan to help guide the next steps.
What is an MDT Assessment?
Rather than attending separate appointments with multiple clinicians over several weeks or months, our MDT assessment allows you to be reviewed by the appropriate specialists during a single coordinated consultation.
Your assessment may include input from:
- Plastic and reconstructive surgeons
- Orthopaedic surgeons
- Prosthetists
- Physiotherapists
Where appropriate, additional specialist opinions may be incorporated depending on the nature of your condition.
Each member of the team contributes their own expertise before a single, integrated management plan is agreed.
Who is this Service For?
MDT assessment is particularly valuable for patients with complex or life-changing conditions where several treatment options may exist.
Examples include:
- Major limb amputation
- Persistent residual limb pain
- Phantom limb pain
- Assessment for osseointegration
- Complex limb reconstruction
- Failed previous surgery
What to Expect
Before Your Appointment
Our team will review any relevant medical records, clinic letters and imaging that you provide in advance.
This allows the consultation to focus on understanding your current concerns and discussing the most appropriate treatment options.
During Your Assessment
Your appointment will typically include:
- A detailed discussion of your medical history
- Clinical examination
- Review of previous investigations
- Assessment by the appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team
- Discussion of your personal goals, lifestyle and priorities
- Opportunity to ask questions and explore all available treatment options
Where appropriate, the team will discuss both surgical and non-surgical approaches, ensuring that recommendations are tailored to your individual circumstances.
Your MDT Report
Following your assessment, you will receive a comprehensive written report.
The report will typically include:
- Clinical history
- Examination findings
- Review of previous investigations
- Diagnosis
- Summary of multidisciplinary discussion
- Treatment options considered
- Benefits and risks of each approach
- Agreed recommendations

- Case manager
- Solicitor
- Private medical insurer
It provides a clear roadmap for future treatment and rehabilitation.
Independent, Personalised Advice
Not every patient requires surgery.
One of the greatest strengths of multidisciplinary assessment is that it allows all appropriate treatment options to be considered together.
For some patients, surgery may offer the best opportunity for improvement.
For others, prosthetic optimisation, physiotherapy, rehabilitation or pain management may achieve better outcomes with less intervention.
Our recommendations are always tailored to your individual circumstances and personal goals.
Why Choose an MDT Assessment?
A multidisciplinary approach offers several important advantages:
- Expert opinion from multiple specialists in one visit
- Coordinated decision-making
- Reduced need for multiple appointments
- A personalised treatment strategy
- A comprehensive written report
- Improved communication between healthcare professionals
- Confidence that all appropriate treatment options have been considered
For many patients, this provides reassurance that they have explored every reasonable option before making important treatment decisions.
