Plates, screws, rods, and other orthopaedic implants are sometimes removed if they become painful, prominent, infected, or interfere with movement and function.
Metalwork removal surgery may also be recommended when implants are no longer needed or when they contribute to irritation of surrounding tissues. The decision to remove metalwork depends on the original injury, bone healing, and the patient’s symptoms.
We provide careful assessment to determine whether implant removal is likely to improve comfort and function.
