Treatment

Shockwave Therapy & Rehabilitation

Condition

Achilles Tendinopathy

Patient

Michael, 42

Duration

4 Weeks

Description

Michael came to Leeds Limb Clinic after experiencing persistent pain in his Achilles tendon for over eight months. The discomfort had gradually worsened, making it difficult to run, climb stairs, and even complete everyday tasks without pain.

Following a comprehensive assessment, our clinicians diagnosed chronic Achilles tendinopathy. Rather than relying solely on pain relief, we created a personalised treatment plan focused on addressing the underlying cause of the problem.

The programme combined Shockwave Therapy with a progressive rehabilitation plan designed to improve tendon strength, mobility and overall function. Throughout the treatment, Michael attended regular reviews where exercises were adapted based on his progress.

By the end of the programme, Michael reported a significant reduction in pain and had returned to running three times a week without discomfort. More importantly, he gained the knowledge and confidence to continue managing his tendon health long-term.

Patient Quote
"

I’d struggled with Achilles pain for months and had almost given up running. From my first appointment, the team explained exactly what was happening and gave me confidence that things could improve. The combination of treatment and exercises made a huge difference, and now I’m back doing what I enjoy without constantly worrying about the pain.

"

Outcome

Outcome: After 12 weeks of personalised treatment and rehabilitation, Michael’s pain reduced from 8/10 to 1/10. He regained full strength and mobility, returned to recreational running three times a week, and was able to complete everyday activities without discomfort.
