Osseointegration is an alternative to traditional socket prostheses for selected amputees. Instead of using a socket that fits around the limb, a titanium implant is placed directly into the bone, allowing the prosthesis to attach securely to the skeleton.
For some patients, osseointegration can improve comfort, mobility, sitting tolerance, and prosthetic control while avoiding common socket-related problems such as skin irritation and pressure sores.
This is a highly specialised treatment that requires careful assessment, surgical planning, and close rehabilitation support. We provide expert assessment and guidance for patients considering osseointegration surgery.
